Commanding fine views of the mediterranean...

A good part of the new Beirut city center will lie on reclaimed land. Commanding fine views of the Mediterranean, with a picturesque landscape of hills and mountains across the bay, it provides an uninterrupted 3.5-km extension of the city shoreline. Heavy engineering investment in sea defense, marina construction, environmental cleanup and reclamation, have prepared for its development.
The Waterfront District is a prime, active, multiuse district with financial, business, residential, tourist and leisure facilities and extensive green areas and bold architecture commanding fine views of the sea and the Lebanese mountains. When fully completed, it will contain two marinas, a waterside city park, Corniche and quayside promenades, with 29 ha of new waterside development land.
Beirut Marina entered its eighth season in spring 2009. Its capacity stands at 186 boats ranging from 5 to 65 meters, and it is currently hosting 164 boats and yachts. Zaitunay Bay, a

marina-related development designed by Steven Holl architects (US) will include Le Deck, a yacht club with furnished apartments; a quayside restaurant strip; and harbor master, customs and immigration buildings. Another marina to the east is planned in a second phase.
Solidere aims to develop the Waterfront District as a model of sustainable urban development by applying internationally recognized guidelines in line with the concept of green technology. Destined to become a major destination, the district is already hosting several temporary cultural and leisure activities.
Solidere inaugurated a 1,200sq m Beirut Exhibition Center, designed by L.E.FT (US), a biking and walking trail that leads from the traditional city center to the waterfront promenade, and is planning a number of other cultural and leisure activities along a rambla pedestrian spine.
