Hiba Kalache received her Master of Fine Arts in 2005 from the California College of the Arts, in San Francisco, a city where she lived most of her life. She has recently relocated to Beirut.
An multidisciplinary artist, Kalache works with sculpture, watercolour and site-specific installations (sometimes involving food). Through image as well as sculpted spaces, she seeks to explore and reflect on the ways people process and filtrate memories, trauma, time and place.
Kalache analyses and portrays the various and complex influences of the private sphere through one’s definition of “home” and “individuality”, in parallel with one’s social belonging. Recently, she has been exploring the subject of love within a specific city and the feelings that accompany it, using a glance into one woman’s private world.
Kalache has exhibited in Beirut, New Orleans (La.), San Jose (Ca.), and San Francisco (Ca.) since 2001. She was also featured in contemporary art fairs, such as Slick (Paris, 2010) and Bastakiya (Dubai, 2010).
