Born in Kfarchima, Lebanon, Mireille Honeïn lives and works between Paris and Beirut. She holds a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in information sciences.
Since 1988, Honeïn sculpts and produces installations with varied materials, such as clay, wood, stone, concrete, papier mâché, and bronze. In recent years, she has been working on a series of sculptures based on ancient mythology, in particular on Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The stories of characters such as Icarus or Arachne are translated into large sculptures whose shape and movement convey the entire burden placed on humankind by the gods, and clash with the constant possibility of hope and redemption.
Honeïn’s sculptures have been exhibited in many collective shows in Paris. In 1993, her sculpture Ferveur was installed on a public square in Saint-Amand Montrond, France, and in 1998,Lecture was acquired by the City of Beirut. In 2002, she installed Echo du Silence, fifteen life-size characters, in the public garden Gebran Khalil Gebran in Beirut. Honeïn also worked for five years with French bank notes, which she exhibited in 2006 at Paris’s Musée de la Monnaie. Honeïn’s solo shows have taken place in Paris and Beirut, most recently in 2010.
