Born in Beirut, Aghbashian lives and works in London, where she obtained a Master of Fine Arts at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and studied art management and curating at Birkbeck University. She has been exhibiting since 1997 and her works have been shown in Lebanon, the United Kingdom and Germany.
Although primarily a painter, Aghbashian also works in photography, film-making and installations. Her work deals with the ambiguities of memories, and the way they blur distinctions between fiction and reality, by establishing a dialogue between now and then through the use of archival documents. Drawing from different pictorial approaches, Aghbashian makes visible the omnipresence of the past in everybody’s life and the transformation of social norms.
Aghbashian has taught art in Lebanon, at schools and universities, and curates shows in collaboration with museums such as the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
